Learning 3D
How I learned 3D, from Tinkercad to Blender to AI 3D generation, ending with the topper for our wedding cake.
I learned 3D one tool at a time, and each step let me teach it and make more.
Tinkercad and 3D printing
Tinkercad came first: simple shapes, joined and cut, then printed. I brought the Makerspace’s TinkerCAD for 3D Printing class online, and used the same tools for pieces like the turntable coasters and the Maker Cup’s medals and trophy.
Blender
Blender let me model whole objects. The Pinecil field kit is a case for a portable soldering iron that opens into a stand, modeled in Blender and split into layers to cut on the laser.
3D generation
For our wedding cake, I made the topper with AI: a drawing and concept images of the two of us and our cat, turned into a printable 3D model with Meshy. The print was primed, given a gold base coat, then painted, and the finished topper stood on the cake at the wedding.
